Biography

Kapil Batra produces and directs Documentaries, Chat Shows, Game Shows and Corporate Films for various Channels, Ministries, Non Government Organisations and Corporate houses. A graduate of the Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, he has been working in the field of Television programming for over twenty years now.

A senior television producer, he has been largely instrumental in directing some of the most reputed programmes like Bigg Boss and Guiness World Records for Colors, Ted Talks-India, Sach Ka Saamna, Comedy Ka Mahamukabla, Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain, India’s Child Genius, Kamzor Kadii Kaun, The Great Debate and Heart of the Matter for Star TV, Indian Idol, Dus Ka Dum, Jhalak Dikhlaa Ja, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, Deal Ya No Deal, Fame Gurukul, Batliwallas House No:43, Bournvita Quiz Contest and Bachke Rehnaa for Sony Entertainment Television, Bollywood Ka Boss for Sahara, Emergency Room for National Geographic Channel, The Dream Merchants, Ek Se Badhkar Ek and Zee Cinestar Ki Khoj for Zee TV, Parakh and Face the Nation for Doordarshan, Mastermind and University Challenge for the BBC and Pakistan Idol for Geo TV in Pakistan.

Kapil Has directed and produced numerous films for Corporate houses and Government establishments. Having made films for the DRDO and various ministries in the government sector, he has worked with Maruti, Airtel, the Hero Group and many others in the private sector.

Kapil has been the first ever news anchor for Zee News. From the first bulletin telecast in 1993, he was associated with Zee News for almost ten years as a regular anchor. Besides news, Kapil has also directed and produced numerous programmes for the channel.

Kapil has helped set up software production houses like Zee News and Times Television. He has often been retained to direct programmes for film stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Boman Irani, Sharman Joshi, Arshad Warsi, Shipa Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan etc. and and has been retained to direct reputed anchors like Vir Sanghvi, Karan Thapar, Vinod Dua, Siddhartha Basu, Derek O’Brien, Mallika Sarabhai etc. He has been nominated as Best Director for the Pinnacle Awards for excellence in Television programming.

Whether it is a Television Channel, Production House, Corporate houses, NGO’s or various Ministries, Kapil has left an indelible impression of professionalism and high production value.

Many years ago, Kapil set up a production house called Mime TV with Himanshu Joshi, an extremely talented singer and longtime friend. Together, they braved the vagaries of the world and forged ahead to make Corporate Films, Documentaries, Current Affairs programmes and Chat Shows. Mime TV still continues and endures.
